Jordan Broadworth : Paintings

Jordan Broadworth - Paintings

September 18th to October 12th 2013
Opening reception and catalogue launch, Thursday September 19th – 5pm to 8pm

Galerie BAC is proud to present the first Montreal solo exhibition by painter Jordan Broadworth. This exhibition entitled Jordan Broadworth - Paintings will be on from September 18th to October 12th 2013. The opening reception and catalogue launch will be held Thursday September 19th from 5pm to 8pm with the artist in attendance.

In this recent body of work Broadworth continues to question painting’s role in an increasing digital world. His paintings are a synthesis of the immediate and the mediated. They function in liminal space between the experience of seeing work in the flesh and viewing paintings on-line. His use of light is screen-like; the paintings appear backlit. The depth and physicality in the work is a seamless blend of fact and fiction. Additionally, the relationship between figure and ground break down in these paintings. Not simply a reversal, figure and ground trade back and forth and folds in and out.

Jordan Broadworth was born in Esquesing, Ontario, Canada in 1968. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA 1992) prior to graduating from the University of Guelph's Master of Fine Art program in 1997. Broadworth has exhibited in private and public galleries across Canada and the United-States. He is also a curator and writer. Finalist at the 2003 RBC Painting Competition, Broadworth has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council. He lives and works in New York City.
